Introduction of the hosting organization

The Scuola di Sport della Sicilia is the Regional Training Agency of the Italian National Olympic Committee, responsible for the training of sport managers and coaches. Since its foundation the Institute has a long history of international activities and national co-operation. It has been involved in different European Projects (EU, Leonardo) in sport and related sectors (e.g. Sport Tourism and social integration through sport).

The School is the member of the European Observatoire of Sports Employment (EOSE) and through the Scuola dello Sport of Rome (the mother Institute) is well aware of the ENSSEE activities. Apart from that, in the Curriculum of the School there are numerous International Congresses and Workshops in different areas. The most recent ones have been organised in collaboration with the CIJM (International Committee of the Mediterranean Games) and the Deutsche Sporthochschule Koeln within the scope of the AEHESIS Project.

Currently the Scuola di Sport della Sicilia has strong contacts with all the four Universities in Sicily (Palermo, Messina, Enna and Catania) and has been involved in different Master programs in Sport Psychology and Sport Management. The contribution to the MEMOS Programme, promoted by the Olympic Solidarity of the IOC, with a specific Module held in Ragusa in May 2006 worth special mention.

In the last 7 years the School of Sport has trained hundreds of coaches, physical preparers and sport managers from private and non–profit sport organization. It has also developed many initiatives of co-operation with Local Municipalities and the Region Sicily for the training and further education of volunteers and professionals in the sport sector.
